Program Description: The Health Sciences program provides students with current health care education and basic patient care skills necessary to meet the needs of the health care industry. The student learns basic medical terminology, human anatomy & physiology, diseases/disorders related to the human body systems. The student acquires basic entry-level skills necessary for functioning in the health care industry or for continuing his/her education in health careers. In addition, communication skills, medical career exploration, life skills and employability skills are taught. The program utilizes many health care facilities in the community as extended laboratories and job shadowing sites in conjunction with the traditional classroom. The program is structured to prepare students for a smooth transition into college or the job.
Grade Level: 11th or 12th
Prerequisites: None
Length of Course: 1 year or 2 years – 3 periods per day
Time of Classes: 8:00- 10:45 AM or 12:15-3:00 PM
HS Credits per semester: 3 HS Credits per year: 6
Dual Credit: Available through Ivy Tech Community College (See Dual Credit)

Occupations upon completion of class: Environmental Aide, unlicensed position in health care, such as unit clerk, medical records, home health aide, office staff assisting in health care; private duty care giver, restorative aide, unlicensed dental assistant
