Program Description:  Thank you for showing an interest in the Twin Rivers Vocational Area Cosmetology Program.  This course is very unique and provides a special opportunity to those striving to achieve a cosmetology education while attending high school.

If you do choose Cosmetology, this information will be helpful to achieve a smooth transition from your present situation into the busy life of a cosmetology student. The first few days of classes are exciting and hectic at times. To be better prepared, please review this material and share it with your parent(s) or guardian.

Each day offers new rewards when you’re in cosmetology!  Twin Rivers CTE Area Personnel and Vincennes Beauty College have worked together to establish this unique course of study to offer you the benefits of acquiring a cosmetology education while attending high school.  You will be learning all the aspects of the beauty industry while you learn first- hand how to deal with the public.  The training facility offers you over thirty five years of experience in cosmetology education. An established clientele is a great asset to learning.

In the State of Indiana a student wishing to be a licensed cosmetologist must achieve 1500 actual clock hours at a licensed beauty school, pass all exams and complete project requirements before applying to take the licensing exam.  A written and practical portion must be passed in order to gain a license.  The practical exam is given at Vincennes Beauty College near the end of the program and the written portion is taken at various computer testing sites throughout the state after completion.

As you will discover, cosmetology students are very special.  They are very dedicated and goal orientated.  They must complete a set amount of practical projects and maintain excellent attendance in order to meet required goals. Goals for each grading period are set in order to complete the State of Indiana Official Progress Book and required clock hours so a student will complete high school and Cosmetology School simultaneously.  An average of 16 hours per week is required in order to complete the required hours. During the summer you will be scheduled for 30 hours per week.

Cosmetology classes typically begin the 2nd week of June each summer.  VBC staff can tell you the exact date.  The Cosmetology classes are held at the training facility on the corner of 2nd and Main Streets in downtown Vincennes.

You must have your own transportation.  Creating a car pool is a great idea; however, you should not be dependent on anyone else for transportation, should they be ill or withdraw from the program.

WHAT SPECIAL ITEMS DO I NEED FOR COSMETOLOGY?

Uniforms are required for the cosmetology classes, and must be purchased by the first day of class.  The uniform consist of an imprinted lab jacket and T-shirt, name badge, and black slacks, jeans, skirts, or Capri’s (these may have a red or white stripe on them, no words are allowed) . Shorts are not allowed and all slacks, jeans, skirts, or Capri’s must be longer than your lab jacket.  Shoes and socks must be all or partially, Black, White, or Red, Non-cloth, closed toe, and professional looking.  The required imprinted lab jackets and T-shirts are available for purchase at the VBC. Student text books must also be purchased before or on the first day of classes, books are available for purchase at the VBC, and consist of a Text book, Study Guide, State Board Review Book, and a CD Rom. WHAT  IS THE NEXT STEP?

Once approved by your high school counselor and then by the CTE Director of Twin  Rivers, someone at Vincennes Beauty College will contact you to set an appointment for an interview. However, to speed up the process do not hesitate to call VBC to setup your interview.   During the interview you will complete a written exam, an eye-hand coordination test, and discuss costs and schedules for the program.  VBC will be conducting interviews in the months of March thru early April.  If you do not interview, you will not be considered for the program.
